Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is MusicSeerr?

MusicSeerr is a self-hosted music discovery and management tool. It connects your existing music services - Lidarr, Jellyfin, ListenBrainz, and more - into a unified interface for browsing, discovering, and requesting music.

Is MusicSeerr free?

Yes. MusicSeerr is free and open-source software.

What are the system requirements?

MusicSeerr is lightweight and runs on most systems that support Docker. It requires minimal CPU and memory. A Raspberry Pi 4 or equivalent is sufficient.

Does MusicSeerr download music?

MusicSeerr itself does not download music. It sends requests to Lidarr, which handles the actual downloading through your configured download client.

Setup

Do I need all the integrations?

No. Only Lidarr is required. All other integrations (Jellyfin, ListenBrainz, YouTube, Local Files) are optional and enhance the experience with additional features.

Can I use MusicSeerr without Jellyfin?

Yes. Jellyfin is optional. Without it, you won’t have in-browser streaming playback, but all other features (library browsing, discovery, requests) work normally.

How do I find my Lidarr API key?

In Lidarr, go to Settings → General. The API key is displayed under the Security section.

Can I run MusicSeerr alongside Overseerr/Jellyseerr?

Yes. MusicSeerr is specifically for music and doesn’t conflict with Overseerr or Jellyseerr, which handle movies and TV shows.

Troubleshooting

MusicSeerr can’t connect to Lidarr

  • Verify your Lidarr URL is reachable from the MusicSeerr container
  • If using Docker networking, use the container name (e.g. http://lidarr:8686) instead of localhost
  • Check that your API key is correct
  • Ensure Lidarr is running and accessible

Library sync is slow

Initial sync imports all artists and albums from Lidarr, which can take a few minutes for large libraries. Subsequent syncs are incremental and much faster. You can adjust batch sizes in Advanced Settings.

Album art is missing

MusicSeerr fetches cover art from MusicBrainz’s Cover Art Archive. Some releases may not have artwork available. The cache is used to avoid repeated lookups for missing covers.
